That's the first I've heard of anthropomorphic dragons being called drakes, sure they're bipedal and a lot more humanoid in appearance but they're still very much dragons in my opinion, the bipedal form just fits in with humanoids a lot easier.

As far as the dictionary definition, even that proves you can't really say much more than 'a mythical beast/creature'

well half the things on this thread that supposedly make a dragon "a dragon" I personally don't have......but i'm still dragon

I have to somewhat agree with victory here and say that it's the mentality that makes a dragon instead of the looks

granted.....you have to at least look like a dragon in a general sense first XD

(to note....I don't have wings due to removing them a while ago, I can't breath fire or anything else because I'm a mage and can conjure it, I can shift between feral and anthro at will and from what I gather.....dragon's don't really consider themselves prey :P)

I already said it was the mindset! =p
Though admittedly I don't understand dragons who don't have wings that aren't some sort of an eastern dragon anyways. They just strike me as being some sort of a lizard, but of course that is before talking to them to learn how they think.

it's not like I have gotten rid of them completely....I just phased them out of existance till I desire them back

I agree mentality is a huge factor in being a dragon, there's certain traits that kinda have to be there. Of course if we just judged by mentality and way of thinking many of us here would be able to call ourselves dragons, so obviously you have to resemble a dragon too, which brings us right back at square one about what makes a dragon in the first place.

Dragons are...well I have several things that I think "Dragon" can mean...

In the realm of Calandor (My fantasy world.) Dragons are one of the seven major races...along with Humans, Drakes, Elves, Dwarfs, Goblins, and Griffins...

However...I think that I find "Dragon" to refer to anyone who dose good in this world...and I mean like without any gain for themselves...so in that seance I think there aren't many dragons left...

Another theory I have is that, Long ago we formed a pact with the dragons for protection and as time went on people began to forget about the pact which lead to "The purge" or the slaughter of their race...where they were almost all wiped out do to most of them holding true to the pact not to attack humans, some however fought back this came to be known as "the blood war." most of the dragons that fought in the blood war were later killed by the other dragons for braking the pact this left only a handful of dragons in the world who then went into hiding amongst us so that they can continue to watch over us.

Then there is the normal term which has many types and kinds...I guess it all depends on who you ask...
"What people think of you defines what you are, but not who you are." - Blackdrake
"A rose by any other name, is still a rose."
"I'm just your average Cristian voriphile." - Blackdrake
"Behold the wrath of God" *hugs* - Blackdrake
I has dragons...
